It’s July–which means we’re halfway through the year. If your goals feel fuzzy or your momentum has stalled, you’re not alone.
Maybe you’re coasting. Maybe you’re stuck. Or maybe you've grown in ways you didn’t anticipate–and now it’s time to realign.
The mid-year mark is your opportunity to pause, reflect, and reset your career–before the year-end scramble begins. Here are five powerful coaching prompts to help you reflect as we head into the second half of the year.
1. Don’t just manage your time, manage your energy
Your energy is a powerful form of data. Are you doing work that leaves you fulfilled or fatigued? Many coaching clients find that tracking energy patterns helps them make small but powerful shifts that build momentum.
Pro tip: At the end of each workday, jot down one moment that lit you up and one that wore you down. After a week, patterns will emerge.
2. Do the right people know what I’m working on?
Instead of vague goals, focus on professional identity. By the end of the year, how do you want to be described by colleagues, clients, or future employers? Ask yourself: If I overheard someone talking about me in six months, what would I hope they’d say?
Once you are clear on how you want to be known, think about where you have opportunities to get exposure to the stakeholders who matter. Great performance alone isn’t enough- you have to build a brand and make sure people know the value you’re adding.
3. What’s a boundary you need to reset?
Maybe you’ve said “yes” too much. Maybe your calendar’s out of control. Maybe your day is run by other people’s priorities. Resetting boundaries–around time, communication, or capacity–is often the first step toward regaining focus.
Start with this prompt: “In order to deliver quality, I need to…” Fill in the blank and let it guide your next conversation.
4. Who is supporting your growth?
Even the most motivated professionals need support. What kind of support do you need to help you achieve your 2025 goals? Depending on where you are in your career, you might need a mentor, a sponsor, a coach or a peer accountability group.
If you’re not sure what your support network looks like, Q3 is the perfect time to think through what you need and seek any support you’re missing–before the deadlines of Q4 demand all your energy.
Not sure where to start? A coach can help you clarify your goals, identify blockers, and create a strategy to finish the year strong.
5. What do you want to accomplish by the end of the year, and what can you do now to get there?
Big goals can feel exciting–but small, consistent habits are what really move us forward.
Choose one simple habit to stick with for the next 30 days.
Examples:
10 minutes of focused planning each morning
One meaningful check-in with a colleague each week
Blocking one hour weekly for learning or reflection
Ready to move forward?
These questions are a great start. But real change comes from turning reflection into action.
A coach can help you make that shift–providing structure, accountability, and a clear plan to keep growing.
